According to The Punch, the South West coordinator of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Ibrahim Farinloye, confirmed that there was an explosion inside a locked beer parlour that is yet to open today.

He said that there were four casualties including a girl injured and had been rushed to Afolabi Hospital for treatment.

Farinloye said: “Fire service and police are trying to find out the cause of the explosion as the shop was locked at the time of explosion.

The coordinator noted that the crowd is greatly impeding emergency works being carried out by his men.

He said: “We call on the crowd to leave the area entirely. The explosion partly affected a building next to the beer parlour.”

However, according to Television Continental News, the Oworonshoki explosion was caused by gas cylinder.

Although there were rumours that the explosion had claimed lives, but officials of NEMA had already confirmed that it was not a bomb blast which corroborates the information that it was a gas explosion. The emergency body also added that there were no deaths as a result of the gas explosion.

In another development, the residents of Jikwoyi and the neighbouring areas in Abuja were also terrified by a loud sound that was similar to an explosion in the late hours of Saturday, October 10.

Officials are yet to comment on whether it was another bomb explosion or not.
